National Forum “Women’s Peace Initiatives”
National Forum on Role of Women in Peacebuilding Held in Bishkek
A National Forum on “Women’s Peace Initiatives” will be held in Bishkek on May 22, 2014. Vice-Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Elvira Sarieva, other government officials, members of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Pamela Spratlen, representatives of UN-Women and other international and non-governmental organizations, and activists of women’s initiative groups from Osh and Jalal-Abad are expected to take part in the forum.
The participants will discuss the role of women in peacebuilding and interethnic reconciliation and learn from the experience of mediators and activists in initiative groups created in the south of Kyrgyzstan as part of the “Women’s Peace Banks” Program, implemented by Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) and financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Accompanying the forum, a photo exhibition including portraits of women from different ethnic groups will be displayed, presenting stories of interethnic cooperation in southern Kyrgyzstan.
